Sergeant J. Aguilar Injured in DUI Crash at Paseo Verde Drive and Buena Vista in Merced

Merced, California (October 29, 2020) – Merced County Sheriff’s Sergeant J. Aguilar was hospitalized after an alleged DUI crash Tuesday evening in north Merced, according to a local news source.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened at about 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, at the intersection of Paseo Verde Drive and Buena Vista Drive.

According to the CHP, Bryan Robert Berlier, 61 of Merced, was driving a 2001 Ford F250 southbound on Paseo Verde Drive when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and struck a marked 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle that was heading eastbound.

Both vehicles sustained major damage following the crash.

Aguilar sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Medical Center Merced.

Berlier was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing bodily injury, DUI with prior felony conviction within 10 years and misdemeanor driving with license suspended or revoked for DUI, according to jail records.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
