Selma, CA: Delhi Girl Killed in Multi-Car Accident on Highway 99
11-Year-Old Delhi Girl Killed in Selma Car Crash on Highway 99 near Mountain View Avenue
Selma, California (May 12, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Sunday afternoon Multi-vehicle car crash that killed an 11-year-old Delhi girl and injured several other people in Selma.
The crash happened at about 1:20 p.m., on May 10, on northbound Highway 99, just south of Mountain View Avenue.
A big rig operated by Deudiel Ramirez, 60, of Dinuba, crashed into five vehicles that had slowed down due to a construction in the area, said the police.
The authorities said the big rig was hauling a trailer full of fruit when, for unknown reasons, it failed to slow down to the slowed traffic, causing a chain reaction.
Due to the crash impact, the big rig caught fire.
Delhi Girl Killed in Crash on Highway 99 in Selma
Fifteen people were involved in the crash, and ten of them sustained injuries ranging from moderate to major. They were all taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
An 11-year-old girl from Delhi, who was a passenger in a 2004 Lincoln Navigator, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not disclosed.
The driver of the Navigator suffered moderate injuries, and four passengers sustained major injuries. They were from Delhi.
The driver and three passengers of a 1990 Toyota pickup were aided at the scene.
A passenger and the driver of a 2020 Infinity QX60 suffered major injuries while the driver of a 2017 GMC van sustained minor injuries.
The driver of a Ford pickup was unhurt in the mishap.
Ramirez remained at the scene and was cooperating with the authorities.
Drugs or alcohol were not believed to have played a role in the crash.
Northbound Highway 99 was closed, and traffic was being diverted at Floral Avenue.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
