Scott Fliegel Dies, 2 Hospitalized after Cabazon Car Accident on Interstate 10 at Main Street

Cabazon, California (September 4, 2019) – One person was killed and two others were hospitalized Tuesday morning after in a two-car accident in Cabazon, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatal crash took place at around 10:08 a.m. Tuesday, September 3 on eastbound Interstate 10, just east of Main Street.
The California Highway Patrol said a 51-year-old Torrance man was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis eastbound on Interstate 10 while Scott Fliegel, 56, of Albuquerque, N.M, was driving a Ford F-250 pickup.
The Torrance man was passing the Ford on the left when he attempted to change lanes before fully passing it. The CHP said the left front of the Ford hit the right rear of the Mercury.
As a result of the collision, the two vehicles flipped off the roadway and one of the cars ended up overturned on Railroad Avenue, just south of the freeway. The occupants of the Ford were trapped in the truck.

Fliegel was declared dead at the scene by authorities. His passenger, a 43-year-old woman, sustained major injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
The Torrance man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Gorgonio Memorial Hospital.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the accident.
Authorities closed Railroad Avenue for at least an hour as they worked to remove the overturned cars from the roadway.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
