Santa Clara, California (January 15, 2021) – A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday night in Santa Clara, a local news source reported.

The major injury accident happened at around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, at the intersection of El Camino Real and Halford Avenue.

Authorities said a dark-colored BMW was heading northbound on Halford Avenue when it struck a 44-year-old man who was walking eastbound inside a crosswalk at the intersection.

The man sustained major injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. His name was not immediately disclosed.

The driver of the BMW fled the scene after the crash. Police described the BMW as a black-sapphire 2012 5 Series and has significant damage to the front driver-side door.

Police are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.
