2 Killed, 5 Injured in Highway 101 Collision near El Capitan State Beach in Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara, California (July 15, 2021) – Two people were killed and five others were injured Thursday morning in a traffic accident involving six vehicles near El Capitan State Beach in Santa Barbara, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The deadly multi-vehicle collision happened at 7:58 a.m. on Highway 101 near El Capitan Ranch Road.
According to the CHP, a Ford Expedition was heading northbound on Highway 101 when, for unknown reasons, the driver allowed the vehicle to cross over the center median into the oncoming traffic.

Two occupants of the Expedition died in the crash, while five other people were transported to a hospital with major injuries.
The names of the deceased victims have not been disclosed pending notification of their families.
Southbound lanes of Highway 101 near El Capitan Ranch Road were closed following the wreck.

The accident remains under investigation.
