San Diego, California (December 5, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Friday evening wrong-way crash that killed a man and left a 59-year-old man injured in San Diego.

The deadly head-on crash happened at about 6:00 p.m., on December 4, on Mission Gorge Road near Mission Trails Regional Park.

According to the police, a 1984 Toyota pickup, driven by the 59-year-old man, was headed northeast towards Santee when a 2003 four-door Acura sedan going the wrong way struck it head-on.

As a result of the crash impact, both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. The first responders extricated them, the officials said.

One driver was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, while the other was taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.

Sadly, the Acura’s driver, a man in his 50s, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the pickup sustained non-life-threatening injuries that included multiple facial fractures.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
