San Diego, California (April 2, 2021) – An elderly driver was critically injured Thursday afternoon in a possible hit-and-run accident in the Balboa Park area of San Diego, according to a local news source.

The crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1, on State Route 163 at Quince Drive.

Authorities said a 2018 Honda HR-V had just exited northbound State Route 163 onto Quince Drive when the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a guardrail near Sixth Avenue.

The driver of the Honda, an 84-year-old woman, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Her name and current condition were not available.

Authorities believe another vehicle was involved in the crash and fled the scene before the police arrived.  However, the Honda had rear-end damage following the accident.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
