San Diego, CA: Driver Injured after Car Plunges Into River off SR-52

San Diego, California (March 11, 2021) – A woman was injured after a car she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer and plunged into the San Diego River Wednesday morning, according to a local news source.

The accident happened at around 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, on State Route 52, just east of Mast Boulevard near the border of Santee and San Diego.

Authorities said the woman was driving on State Route 52 when her car collided with a truck hauling two trailers filled with dirt.

The impact caused the car to drift off the roadway and plunged into the River.

Authorities said the truck had a tire blowout at the time of the accident.

First responders arrived at the scene and found the car lying on its side in the riverbed. Three Good Samaritans also stopped in the area and went to rescue the driver.

The woman was extricated from the wreckage and taken to a hospital in unknown condition. Her name was not immediately disclosed.

The crash remains under investigation.
