19-Year-Old Ryan Martin Killed in Carlsbad Motorcycle Accident on 5 Freeway near Las Flores Drive
Carlsbad, California (September 12, 2019) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the motorcyclist who died in a traffic accident that happened Wednesday morning in Carlsbad as Ryan Wayne Martin, 19, of Oceanside.
The fatal motorcycle accident happened at around 6:45 a.m. September 11 on 5 Freeway, just north of Las Flores Drive.
Authorities said Martin was riding his motorcycle on the roadway when he entered Interstate 5 South on-ramp from the Highway 76 overpass transition. He then accelerated onto the freeway and lost control of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle slid on its right side and crossed all five lanes of traffic before crashing into the center jersey wall. Martin was then hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and they lifted the truck off from Martin. He was then moved onto the shoulder of the roadway.
Martin was pronounced dead at the scene at around 7:04 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
