Roxanne Stempien ID’d as Pregnant Woman Killed in Hawthorne Pedestrian Crash on Prairie Avenue near 130th Street
Hawthorne, California (July 15, 2019) – The pregnant woman who was killed in a crash involving a hit-and-run driver early Sunday morning in Hawthorne has been identified as Roxanne Lynn Stempien, 40, of Hawthorne, according to a local news source.
The accident occurred at about 1:44 a.m. July 14, in the 12900 block of Prairie Avenue near 130th Street.
Police said Stempien was among two pedestrians who were in a crosswalk attempting to cross the street when a vehicle struck them.

Stempien was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male pedestrian was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and was said to be in stable condition.
Police tracked down a potential suspect who fled the scene after the crash. The driver was taken into custody on charges of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run.
The crash is under investigation.
