Roscoe Gray ID’d as Pilot Killed in Fairfield Helicopter Accident at Lyon and Soda Springs Roads
Fairfield, California (June 3, 2020) – Authorities have identified Roscoe Gray, 38, of Sonora, Tuolumne County, as the pilot who was killed along with two other passengers in a helicopter crash on Tuesday afternoon in Fairfield.
The fatal crash occurred at around 1:00 p.m., on June 2, near Lyon Road and Soda Springs Road, off Interstate 80.
A Bell 206 helicopter was working for PG&E when it came into contact with a 115,000-kilovolt transmission line and crashed, said the officials.
The crash reportedly caused a seven-acre fire that was contained by the first responders.
Gray was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other power linemen on board the helicopter were also declared dead at the scene.
The helicopter belonged to PJ Helicopters Inc., of Red Bluff, and was contracted to fly on behalf of PG&E, authorities said.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the accident.
