Gilroy, California (September 24, 2019) – Robert Ezra,53, has been identified as the driver who was injured in a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles in Gilroy Sunday night, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The multi-vehicle collision happened at around 8:35 p.m. September 22, on Highway 152, the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office reported.
The CHP said a 96′ Toyota Tacoma, a 2007 Sterling truck, a 2018 Ford, and a fourth unspecified vehicle were all involved in the crash. 51-year-old Gonzalo Hernandez-Mendez of Gilroy driving the Toyota Tacoma eastbound on the Highway was hit from the rear by a Sterling big rig truck driven by 53-year-old Robert Ezra of Union City.
As a result of the first collision, the Tacoma was pushed into westbound traffic into the path of a Ford occupied by Joseph Davi, her wife Deborah Davi, and their two kids; Sophi Davi and Flowers
The initial report indicated that Hernandez-Mendez was slowing down to make a left turn into a private driveway at the time of the collision.
Officials did not release any information on the fourth vehicle allegedly involved.

The four occupants from Boulder Creek in the Ford were seriously hurt and transported to local area hospitals.
Mendez, a resident of Gilroy, was pronounced dead at the scene while Ezra sustained minor injuries in the crash. It was unclear whether or not he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The multi-car crash resulted in the closure of SR-152 in both directions for at least four hours.
The CHP confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol believed to be a factor at the time of the collision.
Meanwhile, the investigation is still ongoing.
