69-Year-Old Riverside Man Killed in Barstow Crash on Interstate 40 near Crucero Road

Barstow, California (January 22, 2021) – A 69-year-old man from Riverside was killed in a tractor-trailer crash on Friday afternoon in Barstow, authorities said.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly accident on Interstate 40, east of Crucero Road.
According to the CHP, a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up truck, driven by the 69-year-old Riverside man, was allegedly headed westbound at a high rate of speed in the No. 2 lane when it crashed into the back of a 2019 Kenworth tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer was towing a tanker trailer and traveling at nearly 55 mph at the time of the crash, the officials said.
Following the collision, the Chevrolet reportedly veered to the right and entered the right dirt shoulder before it overturned.

Sadly, the 69-year-old Riverside man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected onto the roadway. He sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 44-year-old man from Simi Valley, was not injured in the mishap. He remained at the scene.
Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
