Riverbank, California (February 14, 2019) – One man was killed in a fatal multi-vehicle accident allegedly caused by a drunk driving incident near Riverbank on Wednesday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at about 7 p.m. February 13, at Claribel and Langworth roads.

CHP said a 56-year-old Salida man was driving a 1982 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Claribel Road when he crashed into a disabled 2016 Ford F-250 that was partially blocking the lane of travel and had its hazard lights flashing.

The Silverado then continued westbound before leaving the roadway and traveling into a ditch along the side.

A passenger in the Silverado, identified as a 64-year-old Salida man, was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. His name was not immediately released pending notification of the next of kin.

The driver of the Silverado was taken to Doctors Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. He was then taken into custody on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The crash remains under investigation.
