Richard Holcomb, Lora Holcomb Seriously Injured in Fatal 2-Vehicle Crash on Benton Crossing Road in Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes, California (July 29, 2020) – Two of the five people who were seriously injured in a fatal two-vehicle crash Saturday night in Mammoth Lakes have been identified as Richard Holcomb and Lora Holcomb, both of Hawthorne.  

The deadly collision happened at around 9:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, on Benton Crossing Road, just west of Pit Road.    

According to the California Highway Patrol, Joshua Daugherty, 30, of Mammoth Lakes, was driving a Toyota Tacoma Crew Cab on Benton Crossing Road at a stated speed of 55-60 miles per hour when he made a series of turning movements that caused him to lose control of his vehicle.    

The Toyota rotated and skidded across both lanes of Benton Crossing Road. It then drifted into the eastbound lane and was struck on the passenger’s side by an oncoming white 2016 Kia Sorento, driven by Richard Holcomb.    

Krystal Kazmark of Mammoth Lakes, who was riding as a passenger in the Toyota, died in the scene. Daugherty and another passenger were taken to Mammoth Hospital with major injuries.    

Richard Holcomb and his passenger, Lora Holcomb, were taken to Mammoth Hospital with major injuries. A juvenile passenger in the Kia was also hospitalized with moderate injuries. All occupants of the Kia were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.  

No other details about the crash were immediately provided.    

An investigation into the accident is underway.
