Refugio Salas Olague Among 2 Killed in Hanford Crash at Highway 43 and Idaho Avenue
Kings County, California (July 3, 2019) – Refugio Salas Olague, 63, of Corcoran, was among two people killed Monday evening in a traffic crash at an intersection near Hanford, Kings County.
The tragic accident happened at about 7:45 p.m. Monday, July 1 at the intersection of Highway 43 and Idaho Avenue.
According to California Highway Patrol, a Freightliner hauling a semi-trailer was heading northbound on Highway 43 when it started to make a left turn onto Idaho Avenue. In the process, the big rig collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling southbound.
The Suburban became wedged beneath the truck after the impact.
The driver of the Suburban and her passenger, Olague, were killed in the wreck. Another passenger in the Suburban, an 80-year-old man, was taken to Kaweah Delta Hospital with major injuries.
It was not immediately clear if the Freightliner, a 55-year-old Lamont man, was injured in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
