North County, California (December 3, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Wednesday afternoon traffic accident that killed an 88-year-old Ranchita man near Lake Henshaw in North County.

The deadly single-vehicle accident happened at about 4:25 p.m., on December 2, on Highway 79, just north of the junction with Highway 76.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, driven by the man, was headed northbound on the highway when it lost control, veered off the roadway, and struck a tree.

Sadly, the man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the accident.

More details about the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
