Preventing Head-On Collisions with Drivers Crossing the Centerline

A head-on collision occurs when the fronts of two vehicles crash into each other. This type of accident is not common but when it does happen, victims could be left with major life-changing injuries or even get killed. Often, head-on crashes occur when a driver crosses the centerline into the path of oncoming traffic and collides with an oncoming vehicle. Some drivers may also travel the wrong way on the road, hence colliding with an oncoming vehicle.
Common causes of head-on collisions include drunk driving where a driver swerves from their lane and hits an oncoming vehicle, overspeeding drivers who may lose control of their vehicle especially going through curves, drowsy drivers also have a tendency of drifting into the wrong lanes, drivers trying to pass in a no-passing zone, or obstacles present on the roadways prompting drivers to swerve.

You can avoid a head-on collision or its impact by firstly reducing your speed. That way you will have more time to swerve and avoid the driver traveling in your lane. You can also avoid passing in a no-passing zone. Stay alert at all times and watch out for lawbreakers. Obey the traffic laws and avoid bad driving habits that lead to head-on collisions, i.e. overspeeding, drunk driving, wrong-way driving, reckless driving e.t.c.
