Precious Nievas and Philip Nievas ID’d as 2 Victims Killed in San Jose Crash at Lawrence Expressway and Mitty Way
San Jose, California (May 1, 2021) – The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Bureau has identified the two people who died Monday night after a police chase ended in a crash at an intersection in San Jose as Precious Nievas, 25, and her brother Philip Nievas, 22, both of San Jose.
The incident began just before 10:00 p.m. Monday, April 26, when the authorities attempted to pull over a suspect in a Honda Accord. The motorist failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.
When the pursuit approached the intersection of Lawrence Expressway and Mitty Way, the suspect failed to stop for the posted stop sign and crashed into a Toyota Camry carrying Precious and Philip.
Precious and Philip were declared dead at the scene.
The male driver of the Honda and his 17-year-old passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The two were later arrested on suspicion of evading an officer and gross vehicular manslaughter along with multiple firearm and narcotics offenses.
Police closed Lawrence Expressway due to the wreck.
The accident remains under investigation.
