San Bernardino, California (February 8, 2021) – A San Bernardino police officer was injured Saturday night in an alleged DUI car accident at an intersection in San Bernardino, according to a local news source.

The crash happened at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, February 6 at the intersection of 5th Street and Cabrera Avenue.

Authorities said Abelardo Gurrola, 41, of San Bernardino, was driving his Toyota Tacoma in the area when he rear-ended a marked police vehicle stopped at a stop sign at the intersection.

Paramedics responded to the scene and took both the officer and Gurrola to nearby hospitals for treatment. The unidentified officer was later released from the hospital.

Authorities later determined that Gurrola was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He was ultimately arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol, causing injury.
