Germantown Man Killed in Car Crash on I-66 Freeway near Lee Highway in Gainsville

Gainsville, Virginia – A 20-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash on Friday afternoon, April 24, in Gainsville.

Prince William County police said a 2016 Toyota Corolla was disabled on Interstate 66 near the Lee Highway off-ramp when it was rear-ended by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado.

A passenger in the Corolla was seriously injured in the accident and was flown to an area hospital where she later died while undergoing treatment.

The victim was later identified as Phillip Sorrell of Germantown, Maryland.

The driver of the Corolla, a 61-year-old Germantown man, was also transported to the hospital for treatment of major injuries.

The 39-year-old Rapidan man who was driving the pickup truck was unhurt.

An investigation is ongoing.
