Cal Fire Captain Paul Rotondaro Among 2 Killed in Gustine Car Accident on Highway 140

Gustine, California (October 2, 2019) – A Cal Fire captain was among two people killed Wednesday morning in a traffic accident involving two vehicles near Gustine, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash happened at around 7:02 a.m. on State Route 140 at Old Santa Fe Grade.
The CHP said a Dodge Ram pickup truck was heading west on Highway 140 when it tried to pass a Ford Crown Victoria and collided head-on with an oncoming Ford Ranger pickup.
As a result of the collision, the Ram overturned onto the embankment while the Ford Ranger caught fire. The Crown Victoria was struck by debris from the crash.
Cal Fire Captain Paul Rotondaro Killed in Gustine Two-Vehicle Accident
The driver of the Ranger, identified as Paul Rotondaro, a Cal Fire captain from Madera-Mariposa-Merced unit, was killed in the crash. The driver of the Ram also died in the collision.
The two occupants of the Crown Victoria sustained minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
