Modesto, California (June 11, 2020) – A head-on crash claimed the life of a man and left a woman seriously injured Wednesday night in Modesto, the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly head-on crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 on West Main Avenue, just east of South Carpenter Road.

The CHP said a 2014 Buick was heading westbound on Main Street when, for unknown reasons, it drifted into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming 2006 Chevrolet. The Buick then hit a 2014 GMC that was behind the Chevrolet, driven by Nicholas Stanley, 33, of Turlock.

The Buick came to a rest on the south shoulder of West Main Street and burst into flames.

The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The driver of the GMC, Patricia Verducci, 56, of Patterson, was taken to Memorial Medical Center with major injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured in the crash.

It remains unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.  The accident remains under investigation.
