Modesto, California (December 7, 2020) – Nicolas Villela IV, 19, of Modesto, was arrested following a traffic accident that killed one person and left several others injured Saturday night in Modesto, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident happened at about 10:10 p.m. Saturday, December 5, at the intersection of Claribel Road and Langworth Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Villela was driving a 2012 Nissan sedan westbound on Claribel Road toward Langworth Road at a high rate of speed when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a 2019 Chevrolet sedan that was heading northbound on Langworth Road.

After the impact, the two vehicles slammed into a power pole and stopped at the west corner of the intersection, on the north shoulder of Claribel.

1 Killed, 7 Injured in Modesto DUI Car Crash

A 20-year-old Oakdale woman, who was in the right front passenger seat of the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 19-year-old Riverbank woman, sustained a broken pelvis, fractured rib and internal injuries following the wreck. She was transported to Doctors Medical Center for treatment.

Villela and his five passengers suffered minor to major injuries in the crash. All patients were taken to various hospitals for treatment.

Authorities later determined that Villela was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. He was booked into the Public Safety Center on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter after being medically cleared.

The crash remains under investigation.
