Newbury Park, California (February 4, 2021) – Two people were killed in a three-vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon in Newbury Park, authorities said.

The deadly accident happened at about 12:10 p.m. on 101 Freeway near Wendy Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, three vehicles collided on the freeway in unclear circumstances.

Following the collision, one of the vehicles flipped over, trapping one person in it, the officials said.

Sadly, a woman in her mid-50s and a man in his mid-20s sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

The other trapped person was extricated and transported to a hospital with major injuries.

Speed was suspected of having played a role in the accident.

Traffic on the roadway was stopped for several hours due to the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
