Kelseyville, California (July 21, 2019) – Nine people were injured in a two-vehicle collision that left a mountain lion dead on Friday night in Kelseyville, according to the CHP.

The incident occurred at about 10:23 p.m. July 19, on Highway 29, north of Soda Bay Road.

CHP said Natividad Sanchez, 40, of Kelseyville was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup northbound on Highway 29 when she crashed into a mountain lion in the roadway. The impact left the lion dead at the scene.

The crash pushed the Ford into the southbound side, where it collided with an oncoming Lexus RX300 sport utility vehicle driven by Daniel Lou Aguilera, 71, of Kelseyville.

Both Sanchez and Aguilera sustained major injuries. Sanchez was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center while Aguilera was flown to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center.

Two passengers in the Sanchez vehicle also had major injuries. One of them was airlifted to UC Davis and the other to Kaiser Vacaville. Three teens in the same vehicle were transported by ground ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport. Two of them had moderate injuries and the third suffered minor injuries.

Two passengers in Aguilera’s vehicle were taken to Adventist Health Clear Lake Hospital in Clearlake with minor injuries.

The CHP is investigating the crash.
