Feather River Canyon, California (December 11, 2020) – Myra McGarity, 78, of Loyalton, was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning in the Feather River Canyon.

The crash happened at around 11:36 a.m. Thursday, December 10, on Highway 70, just west of Maggie’s Maple Leaf (Little Indian Creek), according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said a 2015 red Ram 1500 pickup was heading westbound on Highway 70 at a posted speed of 55 to 60 miles per hour when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway and struck several rocks in a ditch.

The truck then crashed into two small trees and came to rest.

According to the CHP, the truck had its airbags deployed. The driver managed to get out, but his three passengers waited for police to arrive and rescue them.

The driver and two passengers sustained minor injuries while a third passenger, McGarity, had major injuries. All victims were transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment.

All parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
