Temecula, California (June 4, 2019) – A woman was killed and three men were hospitalized Tuesday morning after an alleged DUI crash in Temecula, according to authorities.

The deadly accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway near Rancho California Road.

According to reports, a black 2011 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Javier Caldera, 25, of Auburn, Washington, was traveling on the 15 Freeway at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a 2015 Nissan Altima, causing a chain-reaction crash.  As a result of the collision, one of the vehicles in the chain, a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, veered off the freeway and slammed a parking structure near Temecula City Hall before coming to a rest.

The other vehicles involved were described as a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, a 2017 Tesla Model S and a 2017 Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, a 44-year-old Murrieta woman, died at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 38-year-old Wildomar man, sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital.  A 35-year-old man of Brandon, Mississippi, who was in the Chevrolet Tahoe, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

A 55-year-old Irvine man in the Tesla Model S also suffered minor injuries. A 50-year-old El Cajon man in the Toyota Camry was not injured in the crash.

Caldera was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Authorities closed three southbound lanes as they investigated the crash.
