Moua Lo ID’d as Man Killed in Sacramento Drowning Accident on San Joaquin River
Sacramento, California (April 9, 2019) – The identity of the man who jumped into San Joaquin River near Sacramento, to save his one-year-old son has been released.
Moua Lo, 41, of Stockton, died in the drowning accident that occurred in the area of the San Joaquin River, approximately 40 miles south of Sacramento.
Authorities received a report of a small child who had fallen out of a boat while fishing with family members. Reportedly, the child’s father, later named as Lo, dove into the water in an attempt to retrieve the child.
The child was not wearing the life vest when he fell into the water. After their father failed to resurface, Marcus’ 10-year-old sister called the police.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and located two young children drifting in the boat and also located the one-year-old child who was wearing a life jacket and floating in the river. The crews were unable to locate the father of the children.
CPR was performed on the child, who initially did not have a pulse, and was transported to a nearby dock, where he was airlifted to a local hospital in serious condition. According to family members, the child’s condition was stabilized, and as of Monday, he was yet to get discharged.
As per the report, the search for Lo got difficult due to heavy rainfall and runoff in the region resulting in an increased flow of the river. A fisherman located his body on Sunday, April 7.
Lo’s body was recovered by multiple rescue teams assisted by Sacramento Coroner’s Office and an autopsy was carried out.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
