Merced, California (October 24, 2020) – A motorcyclist was killed Friday night in an alleged hit-and-run accident at an intersection in Merced, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deadly motorcycle collision, which was reported at about 7:03 p.m. Friday, October 23, happened at the intersection of Belcher Avenue and Beachwood Drive.

According to the CHP, a car was heading westbound on Belcher Avenue, approaching the intersection of Beachwood Drive, while a Merced man was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Belcher Avenue, also approaching the intersection of Beachwood Drive.

The driver of the car reportedly made a left turn into the path of the motorcyclist. The car ultimately collided with the motorcyclist.

Deadly Motorcycle Accident at Belcher Avenue and Beachwood Drive in Merced

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and performed CPR on the motorcycle rider. Despite life-saving measures, the victim did not survive his injuries and was declared dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of family.

The driver involved did not stop to render aid to the motorcyclist and fled the scene, heading southbound on Beachwood Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a dark green sedan, possibly a late 1990s or early 2000s model.
