Willits, California (May 13, 2021) – A motorcyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Willits on Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Highway 101 near Main Street at about 2:55 a.m.
Michael Lee Confer was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on the highway when he allowed his vehicle to drift across the double yellow line and collided with a southbound 2007 BMW motorcycle.
The impact of the collision sent the motorcycle and the rider over the side of the elevated bypass while the Pontiac caught fire.

The male rider was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mendocino County Coroner’s Office. The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.
Michael Confer was arrested and booked into Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
