Morongo Valley, California (June 13, 2019) – Two teenagers died in an alleged DUI traffic collision that involved two vehicles in Morongo Valley Wednesday night.

The fatal collision was reported at about 10:30 p.m. June 12, on Highway 49, about a half-mile north of the Amador County line.

The accident involved a 2018 white Ford Fiesta traveling westbound and a 2018 gray Toyota Prius traveling eastbound on the roadway with three passengers. The initial report indicated that the eastbound driver was attempting to make a left turn into the Circle K located on the corner of Highway 62 and Rosella Drive hence colliding with the westbound vehicle.

The Ford driver identified as a 33-year-old Morongo Valley resident Nicole Packer was reported to have been travelling at very high speed prior to the occurrence of the accident.

A 49-year-old passenger in the front seat of the Prius suffered moderate injuries in the collision. The other two passengers in the back seat, aged 14 and 17, both sustained severe life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old girl was sadly pronounced dead at around 12:10 a.m. Thursday morning. The 14-year-old Boy was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, and then airlifted to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital where he died.

The driver of the Prius and Packer were also rushed to the hospital for treatment of significant injuries.

Packer was later arrested for driving under the influence causing injury, a felony.

The accident remains under an active investigation.
