Monterey Park, California (April 28, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash has claimed the life of a driver early Wednesday morning in Monterey Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly accident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on the westbound side of 60 Freeway near Markland Drive.

The CHP said a vehicle had stopped in the middle of freeway lanes when the driver exited the vehicle and was hit by another car.

The driver died in the accident. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

According to the CHP, three juveniles, who were believed to have been in the vehicle that struck the victim, fled on foot after the accident.

Lanes of the freeway were closed except the No. 5 lane.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
