1 Dead in Mission Valley Car Accident on Interstate 8

Mission Valley, California (December 20, 2019) – One person was killed Thursday night in a wrong-way car accident in Mission Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash took place just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19 on Interstate 8.
The CHP said a vehicle was heading southbound on Interstate 805 when it merged onto Interstate 8 in the wrong direction and traveled eastbound in westbound lanes.
Moments later, the vehicle collided head-on with another car.
Fatal Car Accident on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley
One person was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries. It was not immediately known if that person later died or if there another injury in the crash.
A video showed a truck with its bumper hanging off and a tire ripped from the axle. The other vehicle had a hole in the driver’s side windshield.
It still unclear why the driver merged onto Interstate 8 in the wrong direction.
The lanes were shut down while the California Highway Patrol investigated the crash. All lanes were reopened just before 3:00 a.m.
Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
