Lompoc, California (June 23, 2021) – Miguel Angel Salas, 26, of Lompoc, has been identified as the male motorcyclist who was killed in a Tuesday afternoon traffic accident in Lompoc, according to the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash happened at around 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of Purisima Road and Mission Gate Road.

The CHP said Salas was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Purisima Road while a 2017 Volkswagen, driven by Lawrence Li, 67, of Lompoc, was heading northbound on Mission Gate Road.

The Volkswagen reportedly made a left turn onto westbound Purisima Road.  For an undetermined reason, Salas was thrown off the bike and hit the front of the Volkswagen.

Sadly, Salas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Li did not suffer any injuries.

The crash prompted the officers to temporarily close both lanes of Purisima Road between Mission Gate Road and Highway 246. As of around 5:30 p.m., the road was reopened.

Drugs or alcohol was not considered a factor in the collision.
