Sacramento, California (April 11, 2019) – A Morro Bay resident man was critically injured in a traffic accident involving a catering truck in Santa Maria Thursday afternoon, according to a local news report.

The wreck happened at around 12:20 p.m. on Highway 166, just west of Black Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Michael Fort, 73, was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on Highway 166 when for an unknown reason he turned his vehicle and faced south in the westbound lane ahead of an oncoming Chevy pickup truck.

The Chevy then struck the driver’s side of the Corolla. The force of the impact caused major damage to the cab area where Fort was seated.

Fort was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition at around 4:00 p.m. The driver of the catering truck was not injured in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
