Merced, California (September 1, 2020) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday morning in Merced, authorities said.
The deadly pedestrian accident happened just after midnight in the 1100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way.
According to the authorities, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way when they were hit by a vehicle.
The pedestrian was dragged by the vehicle for a short distance before the driver came to a halt.
Pedestrian Fatally Hit by Vehicle in Merced
Emergency crews responded to the scene and pulled the pedestrian who was pinned under the vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of the family.
Intoxication was not believed to have played a role in the collision.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
