Man Killed, Crystal Geer Injured in Merced Crash on Highway 99 near Childs Avenue
Merced, California (April 10, 2020) – A man was killed and a woman injured in a crash involving two vehicles and people sleeping in an encampment in Merced on Wednesday morning, according to the authorities.
The crash happened just before 9:42 p.m. April 8, on Highway 99 north of Childs Avenue.
According to the report, 25-year-old Mason Myrick of Hanford was driving a semi truck southbound on Highway 99 when he collided with a southbound sedan driven by 21-year-old Omar Govea of Merced.
The force of the collision pushed the semi off the side of the road and it crashed into an encampment, where two people were sleeping.
Man Killed, Crystal Geer Injured in Merced Collision on Highway 99
A man in the encampment was killed in the crash. His name was not immediately released.
A woman identified as Crystal Geer, 38, of Merced was also in the encampment and sustained minor injuries.
The involved motorists were not injured.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
