Melaku Madhin Killed in Pedestrian Crash on South Street and Downey Avenue in Long Beach
Melaku Madhin ID’d as Lakewood Man Killed in Long Beach Crash on South Street and Downey Avenue

Long Beach, California (February 21, 2020) – The man who died days after being involved in an auto-pedestrian accident that occurred on February 5 in Long Beach has been identified as Melaku Madhin, 62, of Lakewood, according to the Long Beach police.
The crash took place in the area of South Street and Downey Avenue at about 7 p.m.
Police said Madhin was wearing dark clothing and trying to cross the street outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a 2003 Toyota Tacoma.
Melaku Madhin Dies after Long Beach Pedestrian Accident
Madhin was taken to a hospital with critical injuries and was pronounced deceased on Friday, February 14.
The driver of the Toyota, a 27-year-old Wisconsin man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.
Alcohol, drugs and distracted driving were not believed to be factors in the incident.
The Long Beach Police Department is investigating the crash.
