Maverick Martzen Killed in Suspected DUI Crash on Rose Avenue and Bethel Avenue in Selma
Maverick Martzen ID’d as Boy Killed in Fatal Selma Car Crash on Rose Avenue and Bethel Avenue
Selma, California (February 25, 2019) – The authorities have identified the 8-year-old boy who died in a deadly two-vehicle crash involving a suspected DUI driver near Selma on Saturday night.
Maverick Martzen, 8, was killed in the collision that was reported shortly after 10:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at Rose Avenue and Bethel Avenue.
According to a report by the CHP, Scott Martzen, 33, was operating a Kia Optima eastbound on Rose Avenue when Karmjit Singh, 35, ran a red light while traveling north on Bethel Avenue and slammed his BMW 750i into the Optima.
The force of the crash pushed the BMW into a ditch. The Optima, on the other hand, slammed into a tree.
Scott and his wife, Meghan Martzen, 29, sustained broken bones and were both taken to Selma Hospital. Their son, later identified as Maverick, was taken to Selma Hospital and then later airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Singh was determined to be intoxicated at the time of the crash and was arrested by the authorities.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
