Maryanne Whipple Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident on Howard Road in Covelo
Maryanne Whipple ID’d as 1 of 2 Killed in Covelo Crash on Howard Road near Highway 162
Covelo, California (October 29, 2020) – The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has identified one of the two people who were killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash in Covelo as Maryanne L. Whipple, 43, of Covelo.
The deadly accident occurred at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, October 25, on Howard Street, just north of Highway 162, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said Whipple was driving her Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Howard Street at a high rate of speed when, for undetermined reasons, she allowed the vehicle to drift off the roadway and crashed through a wooden fence.
The pickup truck then struck a tree.
Whipple and her male passenger in the front seat were pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the back seat was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico with major injuries.
It is undetermined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
