San Francisco, California (August 12, 2020) – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday morning at an intersection in the Western Addition neighborhood in San Francisco as Mark Berman, 50, of San Francisco.

The fatal pedestrian accident was reported at about 7:00 p.m.Tuesday, August 11, at the intersection of Geary Boulevard and Gough Street.

Authorities said Berman was walking through the intersection when he was hit by a vehicle for unknown reasons.

Pedestrian Killed in Western Addition Crash

Berman was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the vehicle involved, Raja Whitfield, 26, of San Francisco, stopped at the scene and was cooperative, investigators said.

Whitfield was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving, speeding, and entering a crosswalk on a red signal.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the accident.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately available, and the accident remains under investigation.
