Chollas View, California (November 16, 2019) – The San Diego Police Department has identified one of two victims hospitalized after they were struck by a car Chollas View neighborhood last week Monday night as 34-year-old Maria del Carmen Maldonado.

The fatal pedestrian accident, which happened at about 7:50 p.m. November 4, occurred on 47th Street near Market Avenue.

Police said Maldonado and her husband Manuel Salinas were crossing 47th Street with their teenage children when a Cadillac struck them.

The initial report indicated that the driver of the Cadillac appeared to have failed to stop for the blinking yellow lights and then hit the couple in the crosswalk.

Maldonado suffered head, hip, and leg injuries while Salinas sustained a broken leg in the crash. The two victims were transported to hospitals by paramedics for treatment.

The children were not hurt following the accident. 

The operator of the involved vehicle stopped after hitting the pedestrians.

Family members set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the existing and future medical expenses of the victims.
