Palmdale, California (May 7, 2021) – Mac Smith, 64, of Lancaster has been identified as the man who was killed in a Palmdale multi-vehicle accident that sent five other people to a hospital on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Mac was a passenger in a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu that had been traveling northbound on 50th Street East when it was sideswiped by a southbound 1998 Chevrolet Suburban that drifted across the centerline.

The crash took place at around 3:50 a.m. May 6, just north of Avenue P.

The Malibu stopped facing west on southbound 50th Street East and it was hit on its right side by a southbound 2011 Toyota Yaris driven.

Mac Smith Killed in Palmdale Multi-Car Crash 

Mac Smith died in the accident.

The driver of the Malibu, Lurlene Smith, 68, of Palmdale, and her other passengers, Bertha Smith, 66, of Palmdale, and Inga Smith, 47, of Palmdale, were taken to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment of major injuries

The driver of the Yaris, Richard Gomez, 32, of Lancaster, was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries.

The driver of the Suburban, Michael Reinert, 52, of Lancaster, was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. 

The CHP is handling the investigation.
