Lurlene Smith Injured in Fatal Palmdale Accident on 50th Street East near Avenue P
Palmdale, California (May 6, 2021) – 68-year-old Lurlene Smith of Palmdale was one of five people injured in a multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead on Thursday morning in Palmdale, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said 52-year-old Michael Reinert, of Lancaster, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on 50th Street East when he moved into the northbound side and sideswiped an oncoming 2020 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Smith.
The wreck took place at about 3:50 a.m. on 50th Street East north of Avenue P.

Smith’s vehicle then collided with a southbound Toyota Yaris driven by 32-year-old Richard Gomez, of Lancaster.
A 66-year-old Palmdale man, who was a passenger in the Malibu, was killed in the crash.
Gomez, Smith, and two of her passengers, were all transported to hospital for treatment of major injuries.
Reinert was also taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The CHP is investigating the incident.
