Oceanside, California (February 7, 2019) – One person was killed and another was seriously injured when a single-engine plane crashed last week Monday in the area of Oceanside, according to a local news source.

The deadly crash happened at an unknown time Monday, January 28 but the plane was found just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 29 on Canyon Drive near Highway 76.

As per the report, a Piper Cherokee Warrior crashed on a hillside on Monday after leaving Oceanside Municipal Airport only to be noticed 10 hours later on Tuesday.

Raymond Allen Petty Jr., 58, of Yorba Linda, who was the pilot, was declared dead at the scene by responding emergency crews.

A passenger, Luke Austin Hutchison, 25, reportedly survived the crash and was transported to the hospital with major injuries.

Investigators said it was a high-energy takeoff, and the plane was traveling at a faster airspeed to get off the ground but may have failed to get above the cliff. There were only two people onboard the plane.

The crash remains under investigation.
