Santa Barbara, California (July 24, 2021) – Luis Bautista Sanchez, 22, and Leticia Bautista Sanchez, 26, were among six people who were injured last week on Thursday in a deadly multi-vehicle collision near El Capitan State Beach in Santa Barbara, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The deadly crash happened at around 7:58 a.m. on July 15 on Highway 101, just south of El Capitan Ranch Road.
According to the CHP, a 29-year-old woman was driving a 2003 Ford Expedition northbound in the right-hand lane of Highway 101 at about 70 miles per hour when he lost control of the vehicle and drifted into the left-hand lane.
The Expedition reportedly struck the passenger front side of a 2017 Ford F-450, driven by Michael Hebert, 65, of Newhall. The Expedition then crossed over the center median and entered the southbound lane where it collided with a 2017 Honda Accord, driven by John Lopez III, 31, of Lompoc, and a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by a 23-year-old Lompoc woman.
The impact caused the Expedition to overturn onto its right side and continue to the left across the two southbound lanes of Highway 101.
A 2017 Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by Kyle Brito, 38, of Orcutt, and a 2017 Chevy Bolt driven by Sharon Shields, 50, of Buellton, swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the Expedition, but the Bolt ended up colliding with Expedition.
The Tundra was hit by debris from the collision between the Bolt and the Expedition.
