49-Year-Old Long Beach Woman Killed, 5 Injured in Bixby Knolls Car Accident at Del Amo Boulevard and Orange Avenue

Long Beach, California (June 9, 2019) – A woman was killed and five other people were hospitalized Friday night in a two-vehicle crash in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach, according to authorities.
The tragic accident happened at around 10:25 p.m. Friday, June 7 at the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Orange Avenue.
Authorities said a 2018 Nissan truck driven by a 20-year-old man, was heading eastbound on Del Amo Boulevard and sped up to beat a light phasing to red at Orange Avenue when it broadsided a 2003 GMC SUV that entered the intersection heading northbound on Orange Avenue.

The driver of the SUV, a 49-year-old Long Beach woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Three men and two boys, who were occupants of the truck, were taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
All six victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. According to the police, both drivers had valid driver’s licenses.
It was immediately unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
