Berkeley, California (July 30, 2021) – The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau has identified the woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a street Monday night in Berkeley as Latitia Austin Ahmed, 54, of Vallejo.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened at around 9:56 p.m. Monday, July 10, on Ashby Avenue near Newbury Street.

Ahmed and her 25-year-old daughter were walking across Ashby Avenue when, for an unknown reason, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Ashby hit them, authorities said.

Fatal Berkeley Pedestrian Crash on Ashby Avenue

Ahmed and her daughter were transported to a local hospital, where Ahmed succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. Her daughter was listed in stable condition.

The driver involved, a 24-year-old Oakland woman, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police. Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.
