Lamar Garth Seriously Injured in Modesto Head-On Crash on Gates Road near Highway 132
Modesto, California (June 17, 2021) – A Riverbank man was seriously injured after being involved in a deadly car crash in Modesto Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at around 3:29 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, on Gates Road, just north of Highway 132 and near the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge.
Lamar Garth, 47, of Riverbank, was driving his 2006 Chrysler sedan northbound on Gates Road when, for unknown reasons, the sedan veered to the right and crashed into a metal guardrail, the CHP said.
The impact sent the sedan directly into the path of a 2005 Ford SUV that was heading southbound on Gates Road, and both vehicles ultimately collided head-on. The Ford flipped onto its right side after the collision.
The Ford’s driver, a 46-year-old Patterson woman, was transported to Doctors Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her two passengers suffered minor injuries but were not hospitalized.
Garth sustained major injuries and was also transported to the Doctors Medical Center.
Further details about the crash were not immediately provided.
Authorities are investigating to establish the cause of the collision.
